Ekho(余音)(updated on Oct 11, 2009) eGuideDog TTS (Ekho, 余音) is a text-to-speech (TTS) software. It supports Cantonese, Mandarin and Korean (in trial). It can also speak English through Festival. Unlike eSpeak, Ekho is designed in an simpler way but bigger package size. It may produce more natural voice than eSpeak because it uses human voice. Here are some demos:

If you want to use Ekho as a Chinese learning tool, Gradint may be a more suitable choice. Here is an install guide for Linux: How to install Ekho. If you find it too difficult to build Ekho on Linux, try using the mini version ekho-mini-2.0alpha.tar.bz2 (9M), which is pre-built with limited functions but an external OGG player (mplayer, ogg213 or play in sox) is needed.
